Kiss better than handshake!

A team of international researchers has carried out studies and found that while greeting people, it is healthier to settle for a kiss on the cheek than handshake, Times of India says.

Western countries need not bother at this study. But we Indians got to. I have always wondered why hugging and kissing is a major tabu in India.

I hereby recommend all you readers to greet people only by a hug and a kiss!

Ela,
Thought of 'divine' acts like hugging and kissing leads you to Deo's and Mouth-freshners?

I,
Ketta paiyyan you are! ;)

Confused,
People it is better for.

Ankur,
As far it goes on the cheek, I think I'm ok. You thought something else?

When do we start this ??

Even I fell the same...Hugging and kissing is a better way of greeting people and I don't mind doing it...I'm game...There's nothing wrong doing it unless its with a proper attitude...

Now start a campaign "Who want a free kiss?" just like the one in the video

Good things need to be started immdly. Implement it next time you greet someone. (and let me know their reaction!)

mannichikonga paa....sometimes i am too futuristic and practical.....

BTW, do u really think that namma ooru pasangalukku ellam avvalavu thairiyamana manasu irukka enna? hug and kiss kodukarathukku ille but vaangikarathukku....

ANd one more practical and technical doubt...entha nattu hug and kiss...u know different countries have different formats? have u picked up one or have come up with our own swadeshi format?

@I....do not commit to things of which u don't have any idea about.....

Anna ungalukku onnu theriyuma, i've never hugged anyone in my life (forget hugging parents) and maybe a occasional goodbye hug epovavathu with a few friends ( hint.. hint..)

Now you want me to start hugging (random) people i meet to greet them. I don't see this working for me..

How about this, you try this out, and tell us about his/her(hmm..) reaction ?? Nice idea la ??

Wot say ?

Ela,

Namma ooru pasanga edhu koduthaalum vaangippaanga! And kisses and hugs have got no defined methodologies to adopt from a particular country. People can do it in their own style. All I'm saying is "Please do it"! :)

Guru,

Tirunelveli'kkey halwa kodutha eppadi?? I have been doing this ever since I completed high-school. All good reactions wonly. Now I'm in the phase of enlightening others ;) Try to bring it in u'r life-style slowly with people who are close to you and then to others at the next level. They would only love you more : "Katti pidi vaidhyam" kaelvi pattadhu illayaa??

I Hug friends when they leave the country or when we meet after a long time. Why do we need make this a sexual act?

Indians have more sex than anything on their mind, unfortunately!

Arun Sundar said...

Dilip,

Who was talking about making the whole thing a sexual act?

and humans in general have sex more than anything on their mind. It needn't be Indians only :)

Dilip Muralidaran said...

If it was not an issue that has nothing to do with a sexual point of view there is no reason for you to blog it as an interesting piece in an indian context. Because we indians look at every physical contact as a possible act of intimacy or alteast we are scared others may think or consider it as intimacy we dont want to discuss such things in the open and most of the times even behind closed doors.

Just look back and see what comments "I" & "ankur" wrote here. I dont blame them, in fact i admire their sense of humour as well as yours for this post, however the point is 90 out of 100 people will tell you hugging in public is taboo.

Just do a unofficial survey with people around you and you will know what im talking about.

Yeap Dilip, hugging and kissing in public is taboo in our country....even letting ur brother who sees u after a long time hold ur hand with affection in public is taboo, if ur a girl, in India....

I also hug and kiss my friends(usually girls, since foreign guys know how uncomfortable we Indian girls are) and really this simple act conveys so much of love and affection....It was interesting for me to understand this, as we never grew up sharing affection that way...

I took this post as a funny one and of course, on a serious note I do hope that at some point we Indians stop being hypocrates and pretending and appreciate such acts of tenderness...

And Arun....."humans in general have sex more than anything on their mind" change that into "Men in general have sex more than anything on their mind"

It is a known fact, so don't even try to dispute that.......

Arun Sundar said...

Dilip,

"90 out of 100 people will tell you hugging in public is taboo".

I'm saying exactly that. and I'm saying there is nothing wrong in attempting to change that in our society. And to change that, people gotta hug and kiss in public places. And by kissing, I always meant "peck on the cheek". I am doing an unofficial servey thru this post, if U haven't already got that ;)

Ela,

"Men in general have sex more than anything on their mind"

Nenju porukkudhillayae!
